Min KIM
[terug]Kim Min was born in Seoul and graduated from Seoul National University and the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Hamburg, where he worked with W. Hanke and T. Brandis. While studying in Germany, he performed frequently in international concert tours. In 1979 he returned to Korea, where he took over the leadership of the Korean Chamber Orchestra and was appointed to the faculty at Seoul National University as Professor of Violin. As Music Director, he has made the Korean Chamber Orchestra one of the most successful ensembles in Korea. He has served on the jury of major international competitions; in 2009, for example, he will be at the Wieniawski Competition for young violinists. His pupils have won a number of major competitions worldwide. He served as Dean of the Music Faculty for six years (2000-2006) at Seoul National University. Currently he is an emeritus professor of Seoul National University and also serves as music director of the Korean Chamber Orchestra and the Seoul Isang Yun Ensemble.
Né à Séoul, Kim Min est diplômé de l’Université Nationale de sa ville natale, ainsi que de la Staatliche Hochschule für Musik de Hambourg, où il travaille avec W. Hanke et T. Brandis. Tout en menant ses études en Allemagne, il se produit fréquemment lors de tournées internationales. En 1979, il retourne en Corée, où il est nommé professeur de violon à l’Université Nationale de Séoul, et où il prend la tête de l’Orchestre de chambre de Corée, qu’il hisse au rang des meilleurs ensembles de son pays. Membre du jury de grands concours internationaux, il est entre autres présent cette année au Concours Wieniawski pour les jeunes violonistes. Ses élèves ont également remporté plusieurs grands concours à travers le monde. Entre 2000 et 2006, il occupe le poste de doyen de la faculté de musique à l’Université Nationale de Séoul, et est aujourd’hui professeur émérite de la même institution, tout en poursuivant ses activités de direction musicale de l’Orchestre de chambre de Corée et de l’Ensemble Isang Yun à Séoul.
Kim Min behaalde diploma’s aan de nationale universiteit van zijn geboortestad Seoel en aan de Staatliche Hochschule für Musik van Hamburg. Tijdens zijn studies in Duitsland ging hij regelmatig op internationale tournees alvorens in 1979 terug te keren naar Korea. Hij begon er viool te doceren aan de universiteit van Seoel en nam de leiding van het Korean Chamber Orchestra over. Onder zijn artistieke leiding groeide het ensemble uit tot een van de topformaties van Korea. Kim Min zetelt regelmatig in de jury van talrijke internationale wedstrijden, dit jaar onder meer ook in die van de Wieniawskiwedstrijd in Polen. Van 2000 tot 2006 stond hij aan het hoofd van de muziekfaculteit van de universiteit van Seoel, waar hij nu tot professor-emeritus benoemd is. Hij combineert zijn emeritaat met het artistieke leiderschap van het Korean Chamber Orchestra en het Seoul Isang Yun Ensemble.
