Arie Van Lysebeth took up violin at the age of four. He completed his higher education at the Brussels Conservatory in piano, bassoon, chamber music and orchestra conducting. Having come joint first in the International Competition of Prague, Arie Van Lysebeth was appointed bassoon soloist at the Belgian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra. He also studied conducting under Bruno Maderna in Salzburg and under Pierre Boulez in Switzerland. He has conducted the Flemish Chamber Orchestra since 1970, both in Belgium and abroad. As guest maestro, he has performed with the major Belgian orchestras as well as in the USA, Argentina, Taiwan, Great Britain and Italy. He has conducted famous soloists, including Igor Oistrakh, José Van Dam and Murray Perahia. He has conducted the Brussels Conservatory Symphony Orchestra since 1998. He taught chamber music at the Flemish Conservatory in Brussels for many years, and was appointed its director from 1994 to 2003. He is now President of the Artistic Committee of the Queen Elisabeth Music Foundation.

Arie Van Lysebeth commence le violon à l’âge de quatre ans. Il accomplit ensuite ses études supérieures au Conservatoire de Bruxelles: piano, basson, musique de chambre, et direction d’orchestre. Premier lauréat ex-aequo du Concours International de Prague, il se voit octroyer le poste de basson soliste à l’Orchestre Symphonique de la Radio-Télévision Belge. Puis il étudie la direction d’orchestre chez Bruno Maderna à Salzbourg et chez Pierre Boulez en Suisse. Depuis 1970, il dirige l’Orchestre de Chambre Flamand, en Belgique et à l’étranger. En tant que chef invité, il s’est produit à la tête des grands orchestres belges, ainsi qu’aux États-Unis, en Argentine, à Taiwan, en Grande-Bretagne et en Italie. Il a ainsi dirigé des solistes renommés tels qu’Igor Oistrakh, José Van Dam, Murray Perahia ou Augustin Dumay. Il a également régulièrement dirigé l’Orchestre Symphonique du Conservatoire de Bruxelles. Pendant de longues années, il a été professeur de musique de chambre au Conservatoire Flamand de Bruxelles, dont il a assumé la direction de 1994 à 2003. Il est actuellement Président du Comité Artistique de la Fondation Musicale Reine Elisabeth.

Arie Van Lysebeth begint op zijn 4de met viool. Aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel studeert hij piano, fagot, kamermuziek en orkestleiding. Als ex aequo winnaar in de Internationale Fagotwedstrijd in Praag krijgt hij de functie van fagotsolist aangeboden bij het Symfonieorkest van de Belgische Radio en Televisie. Vanaf 1970 dirigeert hij het Vlaams Kamerorkest in binnen- en buitenland. Als gastdirigent leidt hij de bekendste Belgische orkesten en diverse symfonieorkesten in de Verenigde Staten, Argentinië, Taiwan, Engeland en Italië. Hij concerteert met befaamde solisten zoals Igor Oistrakh, José Van Dam, Murray Perahia en Augustin Dumay. Regelmatig dirigeert hij het Symfonieorkest van het Conservatorium, waar hij jarenlang eerst leraar kamermuziek en later directeur (1994-2003) was. Momenteel is hij voorzitter van het Artistiek Comité van de Muziekstichting Koningin Elisabeth.
