Na zijn studies in Korea bij Kim Sun-Wha en Shin Min-Ja tot in 2005, studeert Sunwoo Yekwon aan het Curtis Institute
bij Seymour Lipkin. Al op zeer jonge leeftijd gaf hij een reeks recitals in zijn geboorteland, vooraleer hij ook ging optreden in Europa
en de Verenigde Staten. Hij speelde reeds in beroemde zalen zoals in 2008 in de Salle Cortot in Parijs en de Carnegie Hall in New York,
in 2009. Hij behaalde talrijke eerste prijzen tijdens wedstrijden in Korea, in 2008 was hij eerste laureaat van de Florida International
Piano Competition en in 2009 won hij de Internationale Pianowedstrijd ‘Interlaken Classics’ in Bern en de California
International Young Artists Competition. Op verzoek van de Culturele Stichting ‘Kumho Asiana’ maakte hij in 2007 een tournee in Centraal-
Amerika. Als kamermuzikant werkte hij reeds samen met gerenommeerde artiesten als Roberto Diaz, Ida Kavafian en Peter Wiley.
Après avoir étudié auprès de Kim Sun-Wha et Shin Min-Ja en Corée, jusqu’en 2005, Sunwoo Yekwon poursuit sa formation
au Curtis Institute avec Seymour Lipkin. Très jeune, il donne déjà une série de récitals dans son pays d’origine, avant de se produire
également en Europe et aux États-Unis. Il joue ainsi dans des salles prestigieuses comme la Salle Cortot à Paris, en 2008,
ou le Carnegie Hall à New York, en 2009. Il a remporté de nombreux premiers prix lors de concours en Corée, et, en 2008, il est
Premier lauréat du Concours International de Piano de Floride, puis, en 2009, Premier lauréat du Concours International de
Piano ‘Interlaken Classics’ à Berne et du Concours International ‘Young Artists’ en Californie. À la demande de la Fondation
culturelle ‘Kumho Asiana’, il a réalisé une tournée en Amérique centrale, en 2007. En musique de chambre, il a joué avec des
artistes renommés comme Roberto Diaz, Ida Kavafian ou Peter Wiley.
After studying in Korea with Kim Sun-Wha and Shin Min-Ja until 2005, Sunwoo Yekwon went on to study at the Curtis
Institute with Seymour Lipkin. While still very young, he gave a series of recitals in his homeland ; he has since performed
at prestigious European and U.S. venues, including the Salle Cortot in Paris in 2008 and Carnegie Hall in New York in 2009.
He has won numerous prizes in Korean competitions ; in 2008 he won First Prize in the Florida International Piano Competition
; in 2009 he won First Prize in the Interlaken Classics International Piano Competition in Berne and in the California
International Young Artists Competition. He toured Central America in 2007, at the request of the Kumho Asiana Cultural
Foundation. He has played chamber music with celebrated artists such as Roberto Diaz, Ida Kavafian, and Peter Wiley.
