Augustin Dumay entre au Conservatoire de Paris à l’âge de 10 ans. Ensuite, il travaille avec Arthur Grumiaux. Depuis 1979, sa carrière internationale n’a cessé de se développer. Il est l’invité régulier des plus grands orchestres et a joué avec les chefs d’orchestre les plus célèbres (C. Davis, S. Ozawa, C. Dutoit, K. Sanderling, W. Sawallisch, C. von Dohnányi, G. Rozhdestvensky, F. Brüggen, E. Krivine, K. Masur, etc.). Il se produit également dans de nombreux festivals internationaux. Augustin Dumay assure depuis 2002 la direction artistique du Festival de Musique de Menton. Depuis 2003, il est le chef principal de l’Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, avec lequel il apparaît également comme soliste en tournée à travers l’Europe et le Japon. Il s’est aussi produit en soliste avec l’Amsterdam Sinfonietta, le Symphonique de Kyoto, l’Orchestre de la RAI, l’Orchestre Petrobás Pro Musica de Rio de Janeiro, le Symphonique de Berlin, l’Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne et les orchestres philharmoniques de Luxembourg, Flandres, Stockholm, Nice, Varsovie et de Chine. En récital, il était présent au Festival Enescu de Bucarest, au Victoria Hall de Genève et au Palais des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles. Ses enregistrements (Deutsche Grammophon et EMI) comprennent l’intégrale des sonates pour violon et piano de Beethoven avec Maria João Pires et les oeuvres pour violon et orchestre de Mozart.

Augustin Dumay werd als tienjarige toegelaten tot het conservatorium van Parijs en studeerde bij Arthur Grumiaux. Het jaar 1979 was het startsein van een bloeiende internationale carrière. Hij tekent voor talloze internationale festivals en speelt regelmatig met ‘s werelds grootste orkesten en beroemde dirigenten als C. Davis, S. Ozawa, C. Dutoit, K. Sanderling, W. Sawallisch, C. von Dohnányi, G. Rozhdestvensky, F. Brüggen, E. Krivine en K. Masur. Sinds 2002 is hij artistiek directeur van het Muziekfestival van Menton en sinds 2003 chef-dirigent van het Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, waarmee hij eveneens als solist op tournee trekt in Europa en Japan. Daarbuiten engageerde Augustin Dumay zich ook als solist bij o.a. het Amsterdam Sinfonietta, het symfonieorkest van Kyoto, het orkest van de RAI, het orkest Petrobás Pro Musica van Rio de Janeiro, het symfonieorkest van Berlijn, het kamerorkest van Lausanne en de filharmonische orkesten van Luxemburg, Vlaanderen, Stockholm, Nice, Warshau en China. Hij was eveneens van de partij op het Enescufestival van Boekarest en trad op in recital in de Victoria Hall in Genève en het Paleis voor Schone Kunsten van Brussel. Bij Deutsche Grammophon en EMI realiseerde hij o.m. de integrale opname van Beethovens sonates voor viool en piano (met Maria João Pires) en Mozarts vioolconcerto’s.

Augustin Dumay joined the Paris Conservatory at the age of ten and subsequently worked under Arthur Grumiaux. His international career has flourished since 1979. He is regularly invited by the greatest orchestras and has played under the most renowned conductors (C. Davis, S. Ozawa, C. Dutoit, K. Sanderling, W. Sawallisch, C. von Dohnányi, G. Rozhdestvensky, F. Brüggen, E. Krivine, K. Masur, and others). He has also performed at various international festivals. Augustin Dumay was appointed artistic director of the Music Festival of Menton in 2002. Since 2003 he has been principal chief conductor of the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie (ORCW), with which he has appeared as conductor and soloist on a tour of Europe and Japan. In addition to his performances as head of the ORCW, he has appeared as a soloist with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, the Kyoto Symphony, the Orchestra of the RAI, the Berlin Symphonic, the Chamber Orchestra of Lausanne, and the Luxembourg, Flanders, Stockholm, Nice, Warsaw, and China philharmonic orchestras. He has appeared in recital at the Enescu Festival in Bucharest and in the Victoria Hall in Geneva and the Centre for Fine Arts (Palais des Beaux-Arts) in Brussels. His numerous recordings for Deutsche Grammophon and EMI have included Beethoven’s complete sonatas for violin and piano with Maria João Pires and Mozart’s works for violin and orchestra.
