In the first round, candidates give a recital of approximately 20 minutes. They perform works or extracts from works chosen by the jury from among those proposed.
Each candidate must prepare the following works:
1. Five etudes, of which one by Chopin, one by Liszt, one by Debussy, one chosen from the etudes by Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Rautavaara, Skryabin or Stravinsky, and another chosen from the etudes by Bartók, Dusapin, Ligeti, Messiaen or Ohana.
2. A prelude and fugue from the ‘Well-Tempered Clavier’ by J.S. Bach.
3. A work of the candidate's choice, not included in the programme for the other public rounds.
The names of the 24 semi-finalists are announced on Saturday 8 May at the end of the evening.
