Igor Oistrakh, the son and pupil of David Oistrakh, was born in Odessa in 1931. He won first prizes in the Budapest International Competition of 1949 and at the Wieniawski International Competition in Poznan´ in 1952. His Western debut took place at the Royal Albert Hall in London and was followed by concert tours throughout the world. Igor Oistrakh has performed with the world’s greatest orchestras under conductors such as O. Klemperer, F. Reiner, H. von Karajan, E. Ormandy, C.M. Giulini, G. Solti, L. Maazel, S. Ozawa, and G. Rozhdestvensky. He also performed with Pablo Casals and Yehudi Menuhin. For 27 years Igor Oistrakh played in a unique duo with his father, with whom he made several recordings. Since 1968 he has conducted chamber and symphony orchestras as well as performing as a viola player. He has recorded for EMI, Deutsche Grammophon, Decca, RCA, Collins, Melodia, and Art and Electronics. The recipient of numerous awards, he is President of the Fondation César Franck and serves on the jury of highly prestigious violin competitions (including the Tchaikovsky, Wieniawski, and Carl Flesch competions). Since 1996 he has been a professor at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels.

Fils et élève de David Oistrakh, Igor Oistrakh est né à Odessa en 1931. Il remporte les Premiers Prix du Concours International de Budapest en 1949 et du Concours International Wieniawski de Poznan´ en 1952. Il débute sa carrière occidentale au Royal Albert Hall de Londres, et se produit ensuite lors de tournées aux quatre coins du monde. Igor Oistrakh a été accompagné par les plus grands orchestres, sous la baguette de chefs comme O. Klemperer, F. Reiner, H. von Karajan, E. Ormandy, C. M. Giulini, G. Solti, L. Maazel, S. Ozawa et G. Rozhdestvensky. Il a également joué avec Pablo Casals et Yehudi Menuhin. Durant 27 ans, il a formé un duo unique avec son père, avec qui il réalise différents enregistrements. Depuis 1968, il poursuit aussi sa carrière en tant qu’altiste ou chef d’orchestres de chambre et symphoniques. Il a enregistré pour EMI, Deutsche Grammophon, Decca, RCA, Collins, Melodia et Art and Electronics. Récompensé par de nombreuses distinctions, Président de la Fondation César Franck, il siège dans le jury des plus prestigieux concours de violon (Tchaikovsky, Wieniawski, Carl Flesch), et est professeur au Koninklijk Conservatorium de Bruxelles depuis 1996.

Igor Oistrakh, zoon en leerling van David Oistrakh, werd in 1931 in Odessa geboren. Op achttienjarige leeftijd won hij de Internationale Wedstrijd van Budapest en drie jaar later de Wieniawskiwedstrijd van Poznan´ . Zijn debuut in het Westen vond in de Royal Albert Hall in Londen plaats, waarna concerttournees hem naar de vier windstreken brachten. Als solist werkte hij samen met dirigenten als O. Klemperer, F. Reiner, H. von Karajan, E. Ormandy, C. M. Giulini, G. Solti, L. Maazel, S. Ozawa en G. Rozhdestvensky. Hij trad ook op met Pablo Casals en Yehudi Menuhin. Zevenentwintig jaar lang vormde Igor Oistrakh een uniek duo met zijn vader, met wie hij verschillende opnames uitbracht. Vanaf 1968 legde hij zich ook toe op het leiden van kamermuziek- en symfonieorkesten en het bespelen van de altviool. Hij heeft opnames voor EMI, Deutsche Grammophon, Decca, RCA, Collins, Melodia en Art and Electronics gemaakt en werd met talrijke onderscheidingen bekroond. Naast jurylid van internationale vioolwedstrijden (Tchaikovsky, Wieniawski, Carl Flesch), is hij ook Voorzitter van de César Franckstichting en sinds 1996 docent aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel.
